Join SUSC

Sierra United Soccer Club is the most competitive soccer play program offered by TCYS. Joining the squad has requirements and expectations so the team and each player can be successful on matchdays!

The following describes what is needed to join and become a Sierra United soccer player.

Registration

To register and play for Sierra United Soccer Club, a player must first try out by participating in a scheduled tryout session prior to the start of the new season in May.  All prospective players must compete in a tryout to make the cut and become rostered onto a squad. A tryout will consist of demonstrating soccer skills in ball control, passing accuracy, dribbling, shooting, game I.Q., and other essential skills and abilities while being ranked and evaluated by team coaches.

Tryouts are scheduled once per year with an option to host a second tryout in January.  Open tryouts are scheduled in May for all Club and non-Club players.  If an SUSC squad has a need, an optional second tryout may be scheduled in January for non-Club and recreational players who want to join.  All prospective players who are interested and have the commitment to play at a demanding level are highly encouraged to tryout. A high level of commitment and dedication is a prerequisite from both the players and the player's families.

Playing Season

The competitive soccer season runs from June 1 to May 31 of the following calendar year, and within the year-long season there are four NorCal Premier League programs: summer, fall, winter, and spring.

The new season for SUSC typically begins with tryouts in May, training begins in July, NorCal Fall League start in August with regional tournaments and State Cup matches programmed around the NorCal Fall League schedule. League play ends in November and NorCal State Cup semi-finals in December. The spring program begins with tryouts in January (if needed), NorCal Spring League matches begin in March and end in May.

SUSC have been entering teams into futsal in January and February. Some SUSC squads choose and opt to play in the NorCal Premier Futsal Playdates and competitions.

At minimum, SUSC teams will compete in the NorCal Fall League. The Team coaches (Head Coach, Assistant Coaches, Team Manager, and Team Treasurer) of the individual SUSC squads have the discretion to register its team into other NorCal Season Leagues, Regional Tournaments, into the NorCal State Cup, into Futsal Playdates, and are responsible for coordinating scheduling efforts with opponents and programming its soccer program. Schedules are formed by NorCal Premier League.  Each team's coaches with the opposing team's coaches can reschedule most matches if necessary.

Training Season

Training for the NorCal Fall League season begins mid-July and ends mid-November.  Most squads will train at a minimum two days per week with older age groups training up to four sessions a week.  Most squads will train up to two hours per session.  The training days will vary, as well as the starting and ending times of the training.  NorCal Fall League and State Cup matches begin mid-August and end mid-November.

Most SUSC squads will take winter break beginning late-fall for the holiday season, from mid-November until mid-January.  Some squads may opt to continue training indoors for the NorCal Futsal Playdates and State Cup.

After winter break, squads will begin training beginning mid-January in preparation for the NorCal Premier Spring League and/or for spring tournaments.  NorCal Spring League and State Cup matches begin late-February and end mid-May.

The Coaches (Head Coach, Assistant Coaches, Team Manager, and Team Treasurer) schedule training time and days based on field availability, coach availability, and player availability.

Fees

After the player tries-out and makes the cut, registration fees will vary from $400 to $1,000 per player for the season. There is no cost to tryout for a squad. Fees are for training gear and equipment, uniforms, referees, league registration, and regional tournaments outside of league play. To subsidize and lower the overall fees, squads will host fundraisers throughout the season at various locations and offerings. Some squads will pursue sponsorships to reduce the costs. Fundraising announcements are posted on social media and on SUSC upcoming events webpage.

Requirements and Expectations

Sierra United Soccer Club Squads are competitive traveling teams.  To view their profiles, visit SUSC Squads for details.

Soccer matches will typically play in Modesto, Stockton, Merced, Madera, Turlock, Livingston, Los Banos, Angels Camp, and here at home in Sonora. Some may travel further such as to the Bay Area, Fresno, Sacramento, or Reno for tournaments or playdates.  Some squads may travel even further for regional, state, national, or international to play the world's game of football.

Because of the travel commitment, a high level of dedication is required from the players and families. A love for the game and a passion to improve as a soccer athlete is a must. Overall, the desire to grow as an individual, and with a team of players who are striving to become their absolute best, is expected.
